Built in the early twentieth century it was erected to commemorate the landing in of King-Emperor George V and Queen-Empress Mary, the first British monarch to visit India. Next to the Gateway of India, stands the hotel Taj Mahal ; a luxurious hotel which has hosted several dignitaries from all over the world and became the face of fighting and standing up spirit of India when it restored to it’s original self after being heavily damaged in 2008 Mumbai attacks.
